A journey of preserving Kurdish heritage through art
I am Rûken Rohat, a Kurdish author and artist with a deep passion for preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Kurdish people. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant colors of Kurdish kilims, the intricate patterns of traditional textiles, and the warmth of communal storytelling, I developed a profound appreciation for the artistry that has been passed down through generations.
My creative journey began with a simple desire: to share the beauty of Kurdish culture with the world. I realized that coloring books and notebooks could serve as a unique bridge — inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with Kurdish art in a hands-on, meaningful way.
Each design in my books draws inspiration from traditional Kurdish motifs, geometric patterns found in kilims, and the natural beauty of Kurdistan's landscapes. Whether it's an intricate mandala-like pattern or a serene mountain scene, every page tells a story of heritage, resilience, and beauty.
By translating traditional Kurdish patterns and motifs into coloring book form, I aim to preserve these artistic traditions for future generations. Each pattern carries centuries of history and meaning.
My books are designed to educate while entertaining. Through the act of coloring, readers learn about Kurdish symbolism, cultural significance, and artistic heritage.
Available in multiple languages — English, German, Kurdish, and Turkish — my work connects Kurdish culture with a global audience, fostering understanding and appreciation across borders.
Coloring is a meditative practice. My books offer a mindful escape into the world of Kurdish artistry, where every stroke of color brings ancient patterns to life.
